With expansive views over the Tamar River towards Mt Arthur, Tamar Ridge is the poster girl of Tamar Valley cellar doors.
In a serene garden setting overlooking the valley, you can enjoy a platter of local produce while tasting wines from both Tamar Ridge and partner winery, Devil's Corner on Tasmania's East Coast. Cellar Door visitors may also be privilege to a tasting of one of the winery's "hidden treasures", a wine not generally available ourside the cellar door.
A must try, however, is the 2015 Pinot Noir. A deep crimson red with hints of purple, it has a rich and comlex nose with mouth-filling flavours of raspberry and cherry.
The fruit flavours are balanced by a good concentration of fine, soft, silky tannins and enough acidity to give definaition to the finish that is long and persistent with lingering ripe fruit.
A background layer of spicy oak and savoury notes means it also pairs well with duck or the Tamar Ridge Charcuterie Board with local delicacies of squid ink pork sausage, air-cured smoked beef, and pork and mushroom salami.
The 2015 Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir is good to drink now and will cellar well for four to eight years.
